Hello i have old pc with 2gb ram rigth now i'm using a kingston model (KVR667D2N5/2G) this one to be more precise http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search?partId=KVR667D2N5%2F2G

Where i live is becoming hard finding ddr2 rams apart for the prices being high and the better option i could find was this kingston (KVR800D2N6/2G) http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/?partid=kvr800d2n6/2g

Will this two rams play nicely together? i know dual channel will not work with this but right now i cant buy two of those

my other question is would that ram work with my motherboard that being a Intel D975XBX http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/d975xbx/index.htm?iid=mbd_main+xbx

In the website saids it only supports up to 667/533 but i would told that the ram would just work at 667

In case anyone needs to know the cpu as is a Intel C2D E8400

Cheers

Yes, it will work. The listed memory speed is only what it is rated at, not what it will run at. It will run at lower speeds too. It sounds like you have a single stick of memory right now. If that is correct, put the new stick in the same color slot. That will enable dual channel. The new 800MHz stick will default to 667MHz and should run fine.

Thanks for the reply clutchc and yes and the moment i only have a single stick the one i listed first, now it would actually work in dual channel? i though it should be the same everything the place where i'm going to buy it is like a sort of ebay and the selller told me it wouldn't work on dual channel or those two sticks are the same? apart from the speed of course

For last in the case i get another stick of those in the future of the second one could i still be able to use the old one?

The faster stick should default to the slower RAM's speed and work fine in dual channel mode. But keep in mind... it is always best to buy memory in MATCHED pairs for best results and fewer chances of memory errors.

If you intend on getting a 2nd stick like the 800 MHz stick, using the single 667MHz stick alone in the 3rd slot may revert the system back to single channel mode. It will depend on the design of the m/b.
