Can a single link dvi-d cable work with a DVI-d Connector and a DVI-I connector

i have used a single link dvi-d cable with a DVI-d Connector and a DVI-I connector on my gigabyte gtx970 and the monitor is saying no signal to the computer.

Your problem should be elsewhere.
A dvi-I connection has 4 added pins to accommodate a analog connection.

The DVI-I port should work with DVI-D devices/cables.
