Something is wrong with my monitor

All I was doing was playing a game and then all of a sudden half of the screen just flashed and then became like a rainbow with stripes.

I want to know exactly what is wrong and if it is worth replacing a component or just buying a new monitor.

what monitor & size of it? do you have or can borrow a monitor for testing purposes to see if that still shows up? how old is the monitor as might still be under warranty?

It's a 21 inch ASUS monitor. It's less than a year old. I bought another monitor recently but I want to have a dual monitor setup.

then it should still be under warranty so send it back either to be fixed or replaced.
