Hi,

im relatively new to overclocking but i have had a Gigabyte windforce 7950 that i have OC to 1100 core and 1400 on memory using crimson overdrive. i never up the voltages.

i should in the next few days get delivery of a Gigabyte windforce 7970 ghz edition, i understand its already 1050/1100 on core and 1500 on memory.

without upping voltages how much performance bump can i expect going up from my current card?

thanks

i use an FX 6300 4.2ghz - 12b ram - 500w evga

pretty sure you cant cf a 7950 and 7970, you can cf a 7970 and 280x though.

edit- you can but thr 7970 will downclock, its just not worth it, you will just have issues.

Thats not true. 7950 and 7970 all cf together just fine.

He is talking about 7970 GHz edition (Tahiti XT2, 2048:128:32 cores) and 7950 Boost edition (Tahiti PRO, 1792:112:32 cores).
Some slight performance increase will be noted and also a slight power usage increase (might affect the PS).

PS: There will be some performance degradation in CF, so for some people that is "fine", but for some that it is a waste... However I doubt that his PS and case will support two of those and this wasn't the original question.

Not if his PS crumbles... Cards are rated 225W and 250W, they require each one 6 pin and one 8 pin connector.
I had a 7950 GHz edition and it was generating lots of heat, and some of that was blown inside the PC case (on my specific card).

Hi,

just to give you an update. I got hold of a Powercolor 7970 pristine condition from CEX now it says its XT2 on their system so i was presuming its the ghz edition.

once i got home on GPUz it shows as 925 on core and 1325 on memory, i OC this to 1000 on core and 1500 on memory but Heaven 4 benchmarks favors my current Gigabyte 7950 1100/1400.

im a tad dissapointed tbh its going back tomorrow via store return.

thanks for your assistance
