do you know what revision board you have...

here is a list of processors your type of board can support but for the better ones it has to be 1.02g

i would go for a x4 620 processor, get a 58 series video card and up the hard disk at a later date.

I knwo the board supports AM3 CPU's and up to 140 watt, id the x4 athlon really worth it, as Id be gaining to cores, but loosing L3 cache.

As for the HDD I have a question, its had about 10 installs fresh installs on it, a few viruses. and now my pc jsut generally seems slow, are HDD's affected over time?. and as for the card a 5750?

I read some reviews in ( and for the future ) There pretty impressive when X fire'd

Since you now need a graphics card, why not get what you ultimately want? That is probably a 5750 or 5770 which is all you need for a resolution of 1440.
Your cpu may be the limiting factor, but you will certainly do better than the 9800GT.

For a processor get a AMD Phenom II X4 955 @3.2 Ghz
Get a ATI Raedon HD 5770 (DX 11 capable)
