Dual Monitor Setup advice. What resolutions

Hi all, I'm currently deciding on my monitor setup and I'm struggling. The machine will be for gaming, programming, photo editing, watching movies, everything really. My main monitor will be a 1440p IPS panel with G-sync. Now I always have a 2nd monitor for multi-tasking, but can't decide what type to get. I've toyed with the idea of getting a cheaper 1440p so they match, but then I think it may be worth getting a 1080p for things like movies or if I ever ran into a very demanding game (GTX 980 Ti is the GPU). I could have the main monitor dead centre with the other to the side.

So 2 x 1440p monitors with the 2nd being more of a budget buy (would still try for IPS) or do you think a 2nd 1080p would be more useful

Look forward to your advice.

A 980Ti will run 1440p no problems. Also with GSync you have no worries.

I would get a second 1440p IPS 60Hz designed for productivity. It's nice when both monitors match, it's easy on the eyes. And 1440p is nice for the extra real estate when editing and programming. You don't need 144Hz or Gsync though.

Actually a nice IPS for the second monitor would actually be better than the main Gsync one for editing as colors could be better. 1 for the games, 1 for the photos. Just get a monitor designed for photo editing with good calibration and colors.

I'm using my 1440p 144hz G-sync monitor for gaming and and it is my main one, and my old 1080p 60hz for monitoring temps while gaming, or having the browser open for incoming messages! Really I don't get the feeling that I should get another 1440, 1080p is plenty at least for me! P.S. I also have a 980Ti!

Thanks both, it's definitely a tricky decision - the 2nd 1440p panel would cost more than a 1080p so I'll have to see what kind of value I can get. I was looking at the U2415 for the 1080p (1200p in fact) or the GW2765HT for the 2nd 1440...not sure if I can improve on those 2?

Do you have enough budget for a second 1440p?

Possibly yes, but not the same price as an xb271hu/pg279q - one of those will be the primary gaming monitor.
I really would need to look at something under $400. Seems to leave me only with the gw2765ht or the pb278q, which is already stretching it. My concern also is that a 1080p movie displayed on a 1440p monitor will look shoddy compared to native resolution
