Do you think this is possible? My gtx 970 has HD I as well. I just want to use my monitor as a nice screen for movies, using that 144hz! Any input would be appreciated.

Solution
1) Chromecast is generally 1080p60, with max output of 1080p. It will NOT do 1440p144
2) Movies are almost always 24p, playing them back at 144Hz is stupid as hell and will give you the soap opera effect! You should actually try outputting to 24Hz rather than 144Hz for movies

thanks for the response! I have another question. Should I connect the chromecast to the monitor or to my PC. If I do connect it to my monitor, how can I get my speakers to work if I don't want to use internal speakers.

You can only get it to plug into the TV/Monitor, since it uses HDMI output. If you don't want to use the "internal" speakers, you'll need to feed back your audio to the speakers. Without knowing the exact setup it'll be hard to say what you can do.
