Hey, so my build is as follows.
i7-4790k(stockcooler),
GTX 780 Asus DC2OC,
Maximus vii formula,
16gb ram,
and the case is a cooler master storm trooper.

The problem i seem to be having is that my cpu at idle is reading around 56c-60c when i am playing games however it jumps to 70c-80c ish range. GPU, MOTHERBOARD sensor all read like 30c VRM reads around 40c at idle. When i put my hand on the heatsink for the cpu it doesnt feel slightly warm. So i ran a stress test (prime95) and when i did the temperature was reading 88. but my pc didnt throttle nor did it shut off from overheating. Is it possible its my MOBO's software and sensor acting up or could it be that my cpu is just overheating.

Solution
It seems to be a heat transfer issue (maybe the thermal paste). I wouldn't bet on a board sensor issue, but change the stock CPU cooler.
Long term high temps might damage the CPU.

no but what i am saying or what i tried to say above was that the cpu doesnt seem to be hot. when i touched the heat sink it was almost cool to the touch, and when i stress tested it the fans went up and it said it was at 88c but there was no throttling and no signs of it being hot.
