Why do folders show wrong date created and date modified

Why when I create a new folder on external drive attached to Netgear R6400 router
it shows 1/2/2003 as date modified and date created.

If I attach the drive to the desktop then the correct dates are created, 5/17/2016.

Bios and Windows dates are correct.
Also I did a firmware update to the router yesterday.

can you logon to netgear router and see what its internal time is set to? That would the source of the wrong dates I would think.

Thank You. Logon to Netgear > Advanced > Security > Schedule updating time and rebooting computer fixed it.
