Monitor randomly shuts off and pc keeps running

I have had a problem for a while but I can't seem to pinpoint it. My pc is maybe a month old so it is not old hardware. At first I thought it was my hdmi connection since the cable was pretty close to the wall and maybe bending it. So I changed the cable and it worked fine for a couple of days but then it started again. It shuts off for what seems like 5 minutes after boot every time. My sleep settings are not the problem.

Fx 8350
Asus M5a99fx pro r2.0
MSI r9 390
XFX TS 650 watt psu
Kingston 240 gb ssd
16 gb rip jaws ram

It could be failing, or the external power supply of the monitor could be the problem.

While it was in Safe Mode it seemed to be fine so I am not sure. And now after I booted into normal mode it has not shut off. How it shuts off seems random but when seems pretty periodical. It is still a very annoying problem though.
