Looking for suggestions on new MOBO/CPU

Looking to upgrade. Currently running i7 860 CPU on a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 MOBO with 8 gig RAM and GTX 560 Ti video card. 650W PS.It's been a good performer even though I burned a hole in one of the chips trying to over clock a few years ago. I don't do hard core gaming just some World of Warcraft, MS Flighsimulator, some World of Tanks and a little Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor.

Not looking to spend a wad, maybe 500 - 600, and have been thinking i5-6500 seems a reasonable step up but even thinking, for what I do just leave it alone and just upgrade the Video card.
Any thought or recommendations?

i5 6500 is a great choice if not overclocking. Pair it with a B150 or H170 board and 8-16GB of DDR4 2133.

I would pretty much keep that CPU. It's still quite decent, to be honest. I'd keep it and maybe Overclock it. Even an upgrade to the 390X/980 is going to be a great upgrade from your 560 Ti. You can wait for the 1070 too.

Wait for the 1070 for sure. A few weeks now. Pascal is the future

In my opinion, you should go for the i5 4690k with the gigabyte z97-d3h. It's an excellent board and a great processor! If you lean more towards skylake, get the i5 6600 with the h110m-a

Thanks all. For now I'll take Refillable's suggestion and keep it for now. Overclocked it to 3.15 and will see how it goes. Gygabyte app give an option for 3.8 and I'll try that next weekend. IF I burn it up then so be it. Then look at the 980 or 1070 Video card.
