can a corrupted system files cause the pc to freeze (locks up )

5 days ago my pc completely freeze while on desktop
only steam was opened
I run sfc command and it found corrupted files and repaired them now 5 days later
and no freezed at all

can corrupted system files realy cause the pc to completey freeze even ctrl alt delete did not worked ?
windows 10 64 bit

Oops, sorry I missed that. The cause can be varied, but a couple of things would be shutting the computer down with going through a normal shutdown. That's almost guaranteed to do it if you do it enough. Another way would be to pick up some form of malware. For that I've downloaded and installed the free version of MalwareBytes and I run it every few weeks or whenever I suspect I've gotten infected.
