I'm having some problems with my PC where the CPU will only run at 800MHz. I think its a motherboard issue so if I can't resolve it I may try replacing the Mobo. Can anybody recommend a Mobo that is suitable? I currently have an Asus M4A79T. It would be nice to use my current CPU and Ram, etc. I was really happy with the speed of my machine until I suffered these issues so I'm not sure that a new build is required.

Or would people recommend I replace the CPU, RAM, GPU and Mobo?

My current set up has:
Antec Nine Hundred Two case
Asus M4A79T Deluxe Mobo
AMD Phenom X4 955 Black Edition CPU
EVGA G2 750W PSU (quite new)
ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB
12GB DDR3 CL9 Ram (1333mhz I think)

Thanks

AMD Phenom II CPUs use Cool'n'Quiet technology use power management features which automatically and instantaneously adjusts performance states and features based on processor performance requirements. If you have Cool'n'Quiet enabled in BIOS it will lower CPU speed when not under a load. This will happen on all motherboards with Cool'n'Quiet enabled.

Minimum BIOS required on the M4A79T Deluxe for Phenom II 955 CPU.
Phenom IIX4 955 (HDX955FBK4DGM),3.2GHz,125W,rev.C3 - since BIOS 2002
Phenom IIX4 955 (HDX955WFK4DGM),3.2GHz,95W,rev.C3 - since BIOS 3004
Phenom IIX4 955 (HDZ955FBK4DGI),3.2GHz,125W,rev.C2, - since BIOS 0902
Phenom IIX4 955 (HDZ955FBK4DGM),3.2GHz,125W,rev.C3 - since BIOS 2205

If you want to get a new motherboard, you can use the any of the current AM3+ motherboard models being sold. Only the cheapest models might not support 125 watt CPU models.

A 990FX chipset model would be best, followed by 970 chipset models.

Yes, the cool n quiet is disabled by default so that's not the problem. I also flashed by BIOS with the latest version, which is one of my problems as I can't now save BIOS settings without having to reset the CMOS to get the PC to post.
Would that Gigabyte 990 board fit my current case and accept my current RAM? Also, will my case work for USB 3.0 or would I need a new case for that? Sorry for the noob question there.

UPDATE: I've gone ahead and ordered the 990FX board that you recommended. I've fitted RAM and a PSU and what not in a PC before, but swapping out a motherboard is going to be my biggest job to date. Are there any settings/switches/jumpers that I need to look out for? Or any BIOS settings? Or should all the defaults for jumpers and settings be set up all ready as default/safe options? Thanks

You can set the memory clock, DRAM Timings to the memory manufacturers recommended specifications. A clean install of the operating system would be in order. The case can use the internal USB 2.0 header.

The downloadable motherboard manual lists the wiring pinouts and any other information you need.
