Hi all,

In Intel® Core™ i5-540M Processor we have integrated memory+graphics. What is the advantage of this over intel C2D P8700. How will affect the performance if add ext. 4gb ddr3 ram and graphics card(512MB).pls give me a brief decription abt these two processors.

Thanks in advance.

Well for starters the i5 is a quad so mulithreded will benefit quite a bit. So if you run those kind of software for i5.

It's not a quad...

it's a dual + HT, so yeah not quad core....

and the IGP on there sux, unless ur not gaming, its useless, granted if the other laptop ur thinking has GMA 4500 then both sux, with the new IGP in the i5 less sucking

if the older one has a dedicated card, you will be much better off.

Thank you all for the valuable reply. But how will it make much differnce from p8700 processor?..or anyone can do a comaprison between these two processors? (other than mulithreaded tech.)and dont we have an FSB n these I series processors?...

It's not a quad...

True, it's not a native quad, but you still get 4 logical CPUs.

dont we have an FSB n these I series processors

The Intel "Core" (ie i5,i7,etc) uses an integrated memory controller so you don't have a FSB to communicate with the NB. However, you do have a QPI (QuickPath) which works similar to the HT(Hyper Transport) on AMD CPUs.
