I have a Benq gaming monitor with 144hz and I seem to be getting 144hz since that's what my NVidia control is set to. I'm wondering why my monitor is listed as Generic PnP at 60hz in the monitor properties. Does this matter?

How is your monitor connected? HDMI connections will not support 144hz, even if your monitor is able to. Also, make sure that your monitor is actually connected to your graphics card and not your motherboard/integrated graphics.

No. I'm also wondering if my nvidia control overides my monitor.monitor . settings in Windows. According to Windows it says it's only getting 60hz

Some screenshots would help us understand exactly what youre talking about...how is your monitor physically connected to your GPU? As in, what type of connection are you using? And where are you looking that shows a discrepancy with your monitor refresh rate?

Connected with DVI physically into my graphics card. The simple windows monitor setting displays it as 60hz under Windows monitor properties. I'm not at hope and I'll have to send them when I get back

I am having a hard time finding the refresh rate through windows properties. I opened up device manager, selected monitors, and pushed properties. There is no refresh rate reading there that I can find. Post some screenshots when you get a chance please.
