Is this a good sub 200$ ips display?

Solution
The difference between IPS & VA during daytime (brightly lit room) is subtle, but it's there. However, the moment you turn off the lights, that's when you'll appreciate VA, and you probably won't be able to go back. Use Google Image "VA vs IPS" for comparisons.
Buy the 21.5" instead, it's better value.

However, for watching movies, I never recommend IPS. The contrast is far too low for dark viewing, but in bright rooms, go for it.

For movies and games I recommend:

Or this one, if you want a larger display.

I would personally avoid IPS & TN at all costs if it's for movies, it's night and day.

really? The 21.5 inch display price actually showed up being like 20 dollars more then the 23 inch when I added it to the cart. Also I'd prefer any display I get to be at least 23 inches.

I always assumed IPS was the go to monitor for movie watching, thanks for making me aware of that! I've heard good things about benq monitors. I'll have to research those models you sent me.

Yes, that's because people are misled by articles, reviewers, etc. VA has got a 3-4x higher contrast ratio than IPS & TN. This is recently, because older monitors had trouble with certain things, but not modern ones do, such as response time issues.

Is 5 cm wider and 3 cm taller worth paying $30 extra for? That's the difference between the two.

It's definitely $99,99: http://prntscr.com/baax69

Ask questions or research, up to you.

All the best!

I'm seriously considering the GW2470H now as it seems that monitor would fit most of my needs pretty well. First benq you linked me was smaller then i'd like and had no hdmi.

My biggest worry with the VA was the lack of viewing angle but that doesn't seem to be a big issue anymore. I think I'd be pretty satisfied with either the benq or hp.

Ok I'm getting the 100 dollar price now. Switching between the 23 inch and 21.5 was initially giving me a different price for some reason. Regardless I don't see an extra 30 dollars for a marginally bigger monitor a big deal when the price point is already so low!
