Hello,

I have i5 4690k and i would like to buy the new 1080 or 1070, and I have a 1080p 144hz monitor will most game work at that refresh rate with my cpu? if not will it run on 120hz?
on games like overwatch, dark souls 3, CS:GO, osu! and most RPG games.
Note: I can run on 120hz with my 770 gtx but on 144hz it get lagy.

Motherboard: GA-Z97X-Gaming 7.
CPU: i5 4690k 3.5Ghz.
RAM: 16 gb
GPU: 770 gtx 4gb.
OS: win7.
Monitor:BenQ XL2411

Solution
u should be fine with either cards but with your monitor i'll go with the gtx 1070, the gtx 1070 is equivalent to the gtx 980 ti except that it has 2 extra gigs of vram, it's still ddr5 not ddr5x
had a gtx 980 ti with a 1440p - 144 hz monitor wasn't getting 144 but 100-110 frames per sec , upgraded to a 4k monitor with the gtx 1080 and getting 55-60 frames per sec , honestly at the price of a gtx 1080 go with a gtx 1070 and sli them to achieve the 144 frame rate
