Should I upgrade from a 980 to a 1070?

So I'm thinking of upgrading my current rig with a 980 to a 1070. I'm wanting to upgrade to get better frames on games like the witcher 3 and GTAV at 1440p. I was also wondering if I could use my 980 to just run physX? I'm not really sure how that works though and if it did if it would make a big difference overall.

I'm running windows 10 with an i5-4690k (not overclocked) and 16GB of vengeance pro ram from corsair. Would a dedicated physx card yield a considerable increase in performance?

Dedicated physx card would result in about a 20% increase in performance. It is definitely worth it.

What is your power supply?
And you should overclock your CPU, why get a K model and not overclock?

Okay that's great. I have a 860W PSU so that should be plenty, right? I was going to but I had trouble with my aftermarket CPU cooler and so I stuck with the stock one. Once I get more time in the summer I'm planning on getting that ironed out and overclock.

a 980 as physx with a 1070 will be really good
personally i would sell the 980 and get two 1070s or one 1080

Yeah I was thinking of later getting another 1070 to SLI, and I tried to sell my 980 before the launch of pascal but no one bit. I may try selling it again, but I almost feel like its worth more to keep it than to sell it with the new cards kind of killing it in price to performance.

Alright I'll work towards that in the future, but for the time being I'll run my 980 as my dedicated physx card.
