Recovering files from recycle bin

Windows 10. When several .docx files were recovered from the recycle bin they all came back with a new name, for example $RYU5832.docx. They all start with $, all letters are caps, some have numbers. When I try to open such .docx files the message comes that there are problems with the contents. Then it has unreadable contents do I want to recover. I click yes and it goes back to there are problems with the conrents. HELP,is there a way I can get the original .docx file back?

If this happened to me, I'd get the documents back from a full system backup I've made. I wish you success, but I'm afraid this is just one of many reasons you can't afford not to make backups.

Thanks. I do make backups and am considering restoring from the latest.

Hi everybody. After a couple of days trying unsuccessfully to get those files that restored as $-sign files to work and finding out a few things, today I went back up to my recycle bin and there, very clean, were all the files I wanted and they restored just perfectly!

Your recycle bin is an entrance into the Twlight Zone

I'm glad you got your files back, but I think I'd check for malware and maybe strange creatures from the twilight zone, as Colif suggests.
