I currently have a gt 230 and want to upgrade to a GPU that can play the witcher 3 at recommended settings and i dont know which GPU's give the most performance for the least money. I also have no idea what to look for in a GPU so that it fits my motherboard "IPMTB-TK (Truckee)".

you think its compatible with my motherboard?

I suggest the RX 480 due out at the end of this month. It will be right at or right under $200. That card will be the absolute best bang for the buck on the market. Nvidia has released the 1080 and will release the 1070 tomorrow. Those cards are not cheap, although the 1070 will be a good value. Looks like AMD is concentrating on the mainstream consumers or the lower end of the mainstream and allowing the high end money to go to Nvidia. http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt/12446 can tell you if your computer can run it. It will say if it can run the game on minimum specs and if it can run it on the recommended specs. If it fails either of those that site will suggest a suitable upgrade.

BE AWARE that your card needs to be fed regularly. If your POWER supply unit does not meet your card's power requirements the card won't work or will be severely handicapped. Consider https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-950-2GD5-OCV1/dp/B01CX4URJO/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1465489996&sr=1-8&keywords=msi+960the 950. It needs a 350W PSU and no extra PCIe power connectors. Some GFX cards like the 960 someone suggested needs extra power via a 6pin PCIe power connector that comes from the PSU. If your PSU lacks that, an adapter or two are usually included with the card but it's best to have the PSU natively support your gfx card.

i think these are the most important. and yeah thats my motherboard

Your power supply unit is also important. We can't really guarantee any of our suggestions will work unless we know that part's model number.

That has a surprisingly powerful(for a HP mid-tower) PSU. The 460W PSU is capable of powering that 480, that 950 or the 960. I can't confirm if it has the 6 pin PCIe connector taht both the 960 and the upcoming 480 needs.

BTW adding RAM would be a VERY good idea. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2057872.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XHP+m9788sc.TRS0&_nkw=HP+m9788sc&_sacat=0 shows some compatible options. I recommend the 8GB kit. Remove and sell yours or keep for backup.

I live in sweden so shipping from amazon.com takes a long time
which combination between these and the amount of ram is the best to keep it under 300$?

Only the 950 I suggested is one that I will stand behind. The 950 that you linked to needs a 6 pin PCIe power connector. I seriously doubt your PSu has one of those.

oh sorry i didnt tell you that the specific one was just a random gpu and you could see a list of different gpus if you click the name.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/GIGABYTE-128-Bit-Dl-DVI-I-Windforce-Graphics/dp/B0146YLBTO/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1465492664&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+950

Is there a big difference between this one and the one you linked?

Please accept my apologies. I linked you to the wrong card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126090 is the only place I can find that card that doesn't need that extra power. Not sure if they deliver to your area. It's just the best card that can fit your current situation. if you upgraded your PSU it'd be different.

I also think this http://www.ebay.com/itm/8GB-KIT-2-x-4GB-HP-Compaq-Pavilion-m9788d-m9788hk-m9788sc-m9789sc-Ram-Memory-/221798216345?hash=item33a4343299:g:5QEAAOSwpDdVeKMH will help out your gaming as well. With only 4GB you are cutting it very close if you are a multitasker.

I agree, otherwise you will have to buy a new PSU to plug in a more powerfull card, you can still play The Witcher 3 with low-settings with a GTX 950 though.

BIG difference is your PSU can handle the one from Newegg. Your PSU can't handle the one from Amazon. HOWEVER you can use a molex to PCIe connector. One will most likely come with whatever card you buy. You connect one end to the rectangular white plug aka molex connectors or 4 pin molex connectors and the other end to the top of your gfx card. Your PCIe slot provides about 75 W and the PCIe adapter provides the other ~15. The link from Newegg would be the simplest fix IF they dilerver to your area.

can my PSU handle this one?

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-950-2GD5-OCV1/dp/B01CX4URJO?ie=UTF8&keywords=msi%20960the&qid=1465489996&ref_=sr_1_8&s=pc&sr=1-8&tag=viglink20237-20

First off, repeat after me, I am not stupid.

You are simply learning. You aren't yet experienced enough, hence the reason this and many other forums exist. So you can learn. None of the GFX cards suggested will work with your PSU as it sits EXCEPT for the 950 from newegg.

Simply put. The 950 from Asus via Newegg will work. Period.

The 950s and the 960 suggested need an adapter.

The 480 should have a dual molex adapter.

BEST from your list? https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-NVIDIA-SuperClock-Pci-E-Graphics/dp/B0146YLC6Q/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1465496089&sr=1-5&keywords=GIGABYTE+NVIDIA+GTX+950

Adapter https://www.amazon.co.uk/Molex-PCI-E-Express-Converter-Adapter/dp/B00FHLQURO/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1465496207&sr=1-4&keywords=dual+molex+adapter

What would I do in your situation? I would wait for the RX 480. The value and power of that card well exceeds the 950 and 960.

The Witcher will thank you.

yeah, the dilemma is that summer vacation just started and i'll have to wait 20 days extra to buy the RX 480 but i think i'll wait for it, what adapter will i need for the gtx 950 if im too eager?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trueway-Express-Power-Adapter-Cable/dp/B008AS7660/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1465502052&sr=1-1&keywords=molex+to+6+pin+PCIe

But you will wait a whole month because you know that the Witcher and all your games will look better with the 480. You have the added benefit of being able to save more money and buying an OC(overclocked) edition) when it gets released.

Good thing I only have to wait a couple of weeks at most for the 1070 to be released. EVGA offers the step-up program. Will be stepping up to the 1070 from the 970. CAN'T WAIT, but I must.
