I have a docking station and need to hook another monitor what adapter should I use the hdmi doesn't work

I have a docking station I already two monitors hooked up and I want a 3rd one which is my TV that I need to use. I bought VGA with a HDMI and tried to connect it to the docking station and the docking station doesn't use the HDMI Port. My question to you is what adapter can I get instead of the HDMI one. I just need the name of the kind of adapter to buy to hookup my 3rd monitor

Not every laptop can run 3 displays so you might need a USB video card. This may also explain why the hdmi to vga didn't work.
Which exact laptop do you have?

no I don't need usb video card so never mind, I wasn't asking about that. I have one at a work and I all I did is take the vga plug and the other end was USB plug and plugged it in to the third monitor and it worked with no issues. I am not asking about video card. I am asking what do I get to hookup a 3rd monitor to a dell monitor docking station. It doesn't have HDMI.
