Background

I'm finally pulling the trigger to replace my 8 year old laptop with a new custom built deskop. I am a web developer and graphics designer, so the most resource intensive thing I'll be doing on it is Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator. I might play games as well, but I don't need full 4K/60fps.

Goal

I'd like to get duel 4K 24" monitors (https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-P2415Q-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00PC9HFNY). I'd like to be able to run them both without any sort of lag. Like watching a video in VLC on one screen while working in Photoshop on the other screen? Right now, my laptop has trouble running an attached 1080p monitor, so I want to invest in the right hardware to prevent that.

Question

My question is, will a single GTX 1080 be able to handle two 4K monitors with screen extended, without lag? Thanks!

Could do it with any card that supports 3840x2160 or above from a single output. This could be done with a GTX 950.

For gaming, 1080 @ 4K will get you closer to that 60FPS mark but still not there.

If you want to save yourself some cash (as you said you do not need 60FPS at 4K), pick up an MSI 980Ti LE for $409 after rebate on Newegg. Or wait a bit and snag a custom card for less than $400.
