I've had 2 recent accounts of my PC completely freezing out and having to be hard shut down.

Seconds before Windows crashes I get Event ID 56:

The description for Event ID 56 from source Application Popup cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

Not a hugely helpful error, can't seem to find very good information about it.

I'm on Windows 10 Pro
I7 6700k
16GB DDR4
GTX 970

If anyone else has this issue and/or has resolved it?

Solution
in hind sight, i don't think event means anything. What is happening is PC is shutting down and windows 10 has no idea why, I would expect an event 42 to happen on start up. Freezes generally aren't windows thing, it tend to go down in a rain of BSOD.

What specs are your machine?
try running http://www.memtest86.com/ on your ram as it can cause freezes.
update motherboard and BIOS drivers as well.

It appears to be something to do with the Z170 chipset: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-other_settings/windows-10-event-id-56/aed11fed-4475-4a9a-ad87-4320200dc160?auth=1, the solution on page 1 may not help but there might be something in the 18 plus pages that give a clue.

Have you tried updating your bios? What motherboard do you have?

So based on the other thread I did some digging

https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/3rk3yx/skylake_based_system_reboots_randomly_acpi_issue/

Seems a lot of people have this issue. Looking through here and other sites as well most point to it being a driver issue. Possibly relating to the USB3 ports.
