It's finally time for me to replace my old AMD 1090T system, as it can no longer keep up. The AMD is still perfectly fine for day to day stuff, but I've really started to feel the pain with the latest generation of CAD software, 4K video editing, and to a lesser extent raw image editing. I've done a good deal of research, and come up with a system that I think is pretty decent, and would like to hear what others think, as while i'm not a complete newbie I'm still an amateur at this.

Based on the "How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice" thread, this is what I have:

Approximate Purchase Date: Next 2 to 3 months

Budget Range: $1500 to $200 USD, I can be a little flexible on the upper limit as long as I can maintain a good cost/performance ratio.

System Usage from Most to Least Important:

  • ■ 4k video editing (right now I use Corel Videostudio 9.5 pro, but I've been looking at DaVinci resolve 12.5)
    ■ Cad/Cam (Fusion 360)
    ■ Raw image editing (Raw Therapee)
    ■ Software development (I'm a web developer)
    ■ general web surfing
    ■ watching movies [YouTube, Netflix, Vudu, Amazon]
Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: Everything needs replaced

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, I will get this via my brother who works for Microsoft, and gets a discount.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg, B&H

Location: IL

Parts Preferences: I'm open to anything, Performance is my primary concern, followed closely by a good cost/performance ratio.

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: Yes, Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: 2 x 1920x1080, I have 2 ViewSonic vx2370smh-led monitors. I'd potentially like to get a 3rd in the future or maybe upgrade to dual 4k monitors when the prices come down.

Additional Comments:
What I currently have picked out is as follows:

The 1070 isn't completely necessary, but it's a significant upgrade, leaving more GPU intensive software open to you. The performance increase outweighs the higher price. Also, the 100i isn't completely needed, but will definitely help.

Thanks man, i completely overlooked that board, and it's $100 cheaper than the pro carbon I was looking at earlier today.

with regards to the video card, what do you think about getting an 8GB RX 480 when it releases? it would be cheaper initially, and then later I could pick up a second one and crossfire them if needed.
