Im looking for a new monitor, i was drawn between 4k or ultrawide, im going to get a gtx 1080 soon so 4k would be no issue. I wanted to know which would be better for singleplayer games, such as skyrim, etc. I also see that there a lot of cons to each such as both resolutions not being supported by many games. if there are easy fixes to that issue, let me know. Thanks in advance.

I don't agree that the 1080 at 4k will be no issue.... not if you are expecting 60 fps. At 1440p, you have 165 Hz, low lag IPS screens that deliver an incredible experience w/ G-Sync or ULMB. That is not available at 4k or 3440 x 1440p.

With the 1080 arriving with Display Port 1.4 connections, every monitor out there will be "old tech" when DP 1.4 monitors arrive. Without DP 1.4, neither the monitors not the cables can carry the bandwidth necessary for high Hz panels at either resolution

Right now you have a choice between 165 Hz, low lag IPS screens w/ G-Sync and ULMB and 4k / 3440 x 1440 that can't do that. I have compared side by side 3440 x 1440 @ 60Hz and twin 980 Tis, and 1440p w/ twin 970s, and the latter was decidedly more impressive.
