Hello,
It'll be hard to word this question, but I'll give it my best shot. I'm also pretty unknowing when it comes to display workings.
I currently have a 144hz 1080p monitor and use a GTX 1080. Some games, like Witcher 3 for example, still cannot quite get up to 144fps solid with video settings maxed out. But, it does get close, somewhere near 125-135.
My monitor is NOT G-sync compatible.
Is there any difference to continue running my monitor at 144hz at a lower fps (say, 120 fps limit, or 60fps limit), vs me changing the monitor to run at 120hz or 60hz at cap the FPS with v-sync.
Does my monitor "skip" frames at 144hz because it's not sync'd up with the GPUs output? Do I get more "smoothness" by lowering refresh rate to 120hz or 60hz when the game cannot reach 144?
