Hello all,

So I am currently dealing with something I've never experienced before, and quite frankly am stumped on what I am dealing with.

Specs:
1X Gigabyte G1 GTX 970
intel i7-4790K
16 GB RAM

2X BenQ XL2720Z Monitors running on two DisplayPort cables

When I had gotten these, I had no trouble running both monitors on 144hz at dual display 1080p each (I manually went into the display settings to change them to 144hz). Over time, I began to use my 2nd monitor more, and would turn the computer off and back on with the 1st monitor off. One day, I booted the computer up, and saw that the login screen came up in a very small resolution (1280x720 I came to figure out later). And when I turned the 1st monitor back on, it was also in a smaller resolution. After reinstalling my nVidia drivers and even clean installing Windows 10 Pro, the computer keeps starting both displays in small resolutions. It would vary from 800X600 to 1024X768 to 1280x720. After switching around the ports, cables, and settings, I managed to get both of them to come up in 1080p in 60hz. The 1st monitor still fluctuates from 720p from time to time, but I have not been able to achieve 144hz since then.

I have no idea what to do, and fear that I may be seeing a failing driver after a year and a half already. Does anyone have any suggestions here on what I might be dealing with?0

Thanks in advance guys.

Update 1: When the computer starts in 800x600 mode, I am able to get one of the monitors to work in 1080p 144hz while the other monitor is still stuck in 800x600. I also do have "Extend these Displays" as the setting.

Update 2: The computer consistently starts 1 monitor in 1280x720 and the 2nd monitor in 1920x1080 both at 60hz. These should be both 1080p capable at 144hz but I'm currently locked at these two resolutions.

Update 3: I'm going to try a new display port cable, I have only one monitored plugged in and I still am not able to achieve 144hz. Will update when I do, I'm going to shamelessly bump now, and hope I get some advice by then.

I've managed to get one of my monitors plugged in with the same displayport cable at 144hz. Im going to count my chickens here and leave it at this, will update next time I get new cables or video card.
