MSI 1080 Armor or Gaming X?

I am really stuck on whether to buy the MSI 1080 Armor (OC) or the Gaming X? This is my first PC build, so I want to make sure I am buying the right one.

I know the Gaming X has a better base clock speed than the armor and OC speed, but will this difference be that noticeable in a 1440p display (and in the future perhaps a 4k)?

Gaming X have better base-boost clock out the box. Its on you if the money/performance worth that difference.

Is it possible the armor reaches similar clock speeds as the Gaming X at the expense of temperature/fan speed?

If you don't care OC, then go for the cheaper.

Also, adding a small detail, Armor doesn't have backplate, Gaming X does.

I would go gaming x purely for the fans and backplate. The gaming X has the newer twin Frozr setup. It also feels more value for money. Plus you can use your phone or tablet as a fan speed and temp monitor/controller with the msi gaming app.

tbh there won't really be that significant increase in performance. may be just a tad with higher res but that's about it. for value/performance, the armor takes the crown. right now it's going for about $30 cheaper than the gaming X. but if u can afford the extra $30, why not right?
