My current setup consists of:
I5-4670k @4.0ghz
Cooler master h212 cpu cooler
Msi g45 motherboard
16gb g skill ram @1600mhz
Antec 650w platinum power supply
Gigabyte gtx1070 G1

I had a evga super locked Gtx 760 but have upgraded to a gigabyte g1 Gtx 1070. The upgrade has been huge, but I'm feeling that I would have much better results with a 1440p monitor (my monitor was bought with budget in mind because it was purchased when I built the whole pc). I do play AAA titles ie Doom, Rise of the Tomb raider, Witcher 3, GTA 5 a and anticipate on playing future titles like the new battlefield etc.

Currently I am using this monitor: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236112&_ga=1.22350012.64452747.1450022587

I've also been wondering if a g-sync monitor would be worth my while? Money-wise I could afford the more expensive options, but value is very important to me... - at the end of the day I consider myself a casual gamer and enthusiast.

If sacrificing anything for cost considerations however, with a GTX 1070 on 1440p, gsync is nice but not worth $2-300 to some as it won't come into play much.

A single 1070 will not drive a 4K monitor without some serious and annoying stuttering even with Gsync in even current generation games and a SLI 1070 build would be close to entry level and short term. You are perfect for a 1440p Gsync monitor and not missing much versus 4K in overall experience. In fact, not dealing with scaling up tiny things on the screen is still preferable to many. When 4K matures in a few years and cards that support gaming decently are cheap, you'll also see scaling issues and graphs specifically programed to adjust upon detecting 4K.

You would absolutely do well with 1440p. The Dell S2716DG is on sale at Best Buy for $480 and it's a steal. 27", 1440p, 144Hz, 1ms, Gsync. Need to go into the menu and turn off deep sleep right away and then go to tftcentral for some minor color and contrast changes. I love mine - same features as much more expensive brands, good build quality.
