What makes a gaming monitor better then a regular one?

Hi, looking to buy a gaming monitor but before I do that I'm curious what makes gaming monitors so expensive? I primarily game on my computer so when I looked up monitors I found a nice $100 one but it seems whenever I look up a "gaming monitor" its super expensive.

Every time someone adds an extra letter to the acronym in the name it adds 2-3 FPS.
