I have 2 VGA monitors, both working well on my older pc. With my new pc, i connect them with a dvi adapter, but both monitors say no signal. The customer support said that they tested the pc, and it worked with hdmi adapter.

So if i just buy a hdmi adapter, would it work? The monitors are Samsung SyncMaster E1920 and HannsG HQ191D

Also, they did a BIOS reset with a jumper. Don't know if relevant.

what brand 970 ?? is the dvi adaptor a dvi-I ?? the 900 series has dvi-I that carries native analog support so you should not be having a issue if a dvi-I adaptor is used [I use that here on my older crt monitor and a 980ti]

looking at the Samsung specs you should be good ?? '' Input Terminals: Analog VGA, DVI but funny thing they list is ''Connector Type: 15 pin D-SUB VGA, DVI-D ''

dvi-d don't carry analog signal ?? its dvi-I that does ? something just don't add up there?

http://www.legendmicro.com/store/8772_Samsung-E1920-19in-LCD-Monitor-E1920-.lmsp

''A DVI-D connector on a graphics card sends out a digital signal only, while a DVI-I connector, which carries both an analog and digital signal''

http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/221/~/what-is-the-difference-between-dvi-i-and-dvi-d%3F

ya I understand its NVidia but what brand ??

I been scratching my head on this and the manual is little help but it may seem that you got to go dvi [monitor] to dvi [[card] or d-sub [monitor to d-sub [card] ??

so the factory cables you got for the monitor one should have dvi-d on both ends ?? you may not be able to cross d-sub[vga] over to dvi-d ?

use this cable with the dvi - ''I'' at the card '' 15pin-to-15pin D-sub cable, Detachable ''

or the dvi to dvi ''DVI-D to DVI-D connector, Detachable'' [dvi-d will work in a dvi-I for digital signal only]

this looked interesting as well ??

''(Connected using the DVI cable)
If you still see an error message on the screen when the monitor is connected properly, check to see if the monitor status is set to analog.
Press '' button to have the monitor double-check the input signal source.''

one more thing to point out is this with 900 cards ?? I don't know

gigabyte cards seemed to get this more often is why I asked brand ?

Yeah its a gigabyte card. The monitors only have dsub plugs, and the cables are dsub - dsub as well. (Thats why i'm using a dsub - dvi adapter). So i can't do dvi - dvi.
Do you think the problem would still be there with a dsub (vga) - hdmi adapter? Sorry for my confusion, i'm not a native english speaker and i also don't know much about hardware

????

still d-sub at the monitor should work fine with d-sub and a dvi-I adaprtor ?? like my crt monitor its a d-sub cord to the card and I use the dvi-I adaptor that came in the box with the card on it ???

this is wht I said the dvi-I off the card should fully support analog throufg a d-sub /dvi-I adaptor at the card ??

like seen here

http://www.dansdata.com/images/v71002v1d/adapter320.jpg

another thing I noticed is gigabyte is the only brand that don't give the adaptor in the box with there cards anymore [hmmmmm....] like evga / msi still do

I don't know if you decide to try the hdmi cable to the d-sub monitor or display port you got to get a active adaptor to convert there digital only signal to analog there about 15 to 50 bucks

or chance a cable like this

well I hope the best and you do find a simple solution ? foer me the dvi-I off the card should support the d-sub/vga at the monitor plug and play

check back on your findings after you return from the pc shop maybe theres something I need to know on this I just missed ?

but like I said my analog crt monitor work as expected on this 980 ti I use , so ????
