Switched out my motherboard; came with a few surprises

I previously had a Pentium G3258 at 4.2GHz paired with an MSI B85M-P32 motherboard. Everything was all good and stable too (at 1.28V). Also, I had an R9 380 Gaming 4G which was quite a hot card.

After switching out the motherboard for an ASUS H81M-PLUS, I can get the same Pentium chip to 4.8GHz stable at 1.32V (4.9 at 1.39V, which I believe is way too high). Additionally, the GPU used to reach temps of 85 degrees celsius with Furmark, but now it maxes out at 65 degrees celsius with the fans at 15%. How is this possible?

I have reseated the GPU twice and checked temps with an IR temp sensor. The temperatures seem correct and the GPU is running significantly cooler.

I did clean out the case too and get rid of some dust which may have had an impact on the temperatures. My old motherboard (MSI) was defective anyway so the new motherboard did a good job. I put the same GPU in another PC (also an ASUS motherboard) and it is getting the same temps (65-66 degrees at max load) so it must be correct, right?

Indeed it is rare. A friend of mine has an R9 390 which tended to reach 90 degrees till it began to throttle. He had to put on a G10 bracket with an H60 AIO to keep it below 70 degrees!
