Do you need display port and is it better in anyway?
I am thinking about getting BenQ XL2411Z but it doesn't have display port does this matter?

Thanks

It matters in the sense that DVI does not officially support that sort of bandwidth. If 144Hz fails to work for whatever reason, everyone will be pointing fingers at everyone else when you try to figure out why it isn't working for you but works for your neighbor who has a seemingly identical setup.

Im not understanding so DVI-D could fail but Display port has less chance of failing or doesn't fail?

Maybe. That's the best answer you can get for something that isn't officially within the spec. It will depend on the GPU, the quality of the GPU's PCB, the quality of the cable, the quality of the LCD's PCB and the receiver chip on that PCB. Each component along the path that does not meet the HDMI 1.4 spec over DVI connectors and cables reduces your chances that it may work.

There is a rather large difference between a faulty part which fails to meet specifications and operating parts at speeds well beyond the highest speed they have been officially rated for.
