Hey guys I have an old Phenom II 945 that's hitting 100% usage constantly causing stuttering in newer games (right now Overwatch) so it's time to upgrade it.

I'm pretty cheap so I'm looking used for a cpu/mobo around $200. I have a few in mind I'd like your opinions.

i5 3470 + Mobo ~ $150
i7 377K + Mobo + Corsair h80i -$220
i5 4670k +Mobo - $200
i5 4690k cpu - $150

This is what seems to be the used marketplace available to me; I'm having trouble deciding. They all seem roughly similar in price/performance by the common understanding and I'd like your thoughts on which set my last longer, hopefully another 3 years.

What I'm thinking:

The most $$ value that immediately pops out is the 3770k but I'm not sure about the i7 features being worth much to me although I've heard that newer gen games make use of the hyper threading. The liquid cooler is also nice, but I haven't read great things about it.

The 4690k is a highly regarded chip from the Haswell series and great if I can pair with a cheap Mobo and cooler.

The 3470 and 4670k Might just be enough to last those 3 years without issue anyway and would come down to whether or not 10% IPC is worth $50

Should the motherboard chipset mean anything to me? That would give another criteria to decide but I am thinking it is irrelevant for my purposes, although I will overclock any K series as the need arises for longevity.

Any thoughts or things I might be missing would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Ubnik

Ivy Bridge 3770k, overclock it to 4ghz and you should be happy for a few years. Especially with multi threaded games, as its still a very strong cpu. Wont bottleneck any GPU's either. I'd only pick the i5 if you was gonna buy a haswell i7 later on.

Thanks, that was my first impression too but I've heard a lot of malcontent with Ivy Bridge particularly on this forum so it's been making me second guess.
