Basically is it a must? Or is it a "if it ain't broke...

Is there any evidence that the upgrades aren't stable or does that vary from system to system?

Is there any information about on why a clean install might be better?

From everything that I have read, it seems that a clean install is the best because even a careful upgrade still leaves residual junk files and registry errors. During the clean install take your time and format the target drive that you plan to use as your C: drive.

I heard that the Windows.old folder should delete itself 30 days after the upgrade...
