Monitor not working (using 2 adapters on the same monitor :( )

I recently bought a GTX 1070 but my crappy dell monitor and my samsung monitor both have VGA outputs,meaning I use atleast one adapter per monitor. I use a VGA-HDMI for the samsung and just arrived my DVI-DP adapter so I use a VGA-DVI then a DVI-DP adapter on the dell monitor

The dell monitor shows up on the Display Settings but i get no display

Is it because I use 2 adapters? How can I fix it?
Should I just buy a new monitor?

Sometimes outputs cannot be converted. Just buy a new monitor.

any ideas on which one? Preferably one where I do not need an adaptor, eg with displayport connectors

What adapters are you using ?
I actually think that DVI-DP adapter is for digital DVI

Well usually there are DP=>Vga adapters.
If you convert DP to digital DVI then a connector vga to dvi wont give you the wanted result.
Also its not a good idea to try 2 adapters following each other, they already screw the signal once, but twice is a bit much.

Converting two times will not work at all. For it to work you need Displayport-VGA converter.

What i wanted to say is that there are 2 types of DVI or more like 5

Only those ports that have the 4 additional pins on the left part can be converted to VGA without adapter, aka with connector.
Those pins carry the VGA analog signal. Else you need active connector(that can be powered by the port itself) which converts the digital signal to analog.

As i said your DP to DVI is still digital signal, you could unplug that dvi to VGA connector and check your DVI connector on the DP=DVI adapter. You will see that it doesn't have the 4pins.

Res of the working monitor is 1080p

Res of the Dell, broken monitor is 1680x1050

Yap, but Display port adapter is to DVI-D.
Monitor is not broken, just the signal is incorrect
