So I downloaded Windows 10, aquarium get to the upgrade assistant my desktop is compatible. It downloaded and installed, however on launching it crashes and gives me the option to restart and return to my previous OS (win7) or to access advanced options. I have currently reverted to win 7 but would really like to have the update. Any thoughts on how I can tackle this please?

Solution
Change sata controller mode in BIOS to same value that was before the update.
Update might have reset this to default value. Possible values are IDE, AHCI, RAID.

you may need to update you bios on your motherboard first.
then when you install, make sure you that you are NOT booting with LEGACY mode on your drives but with ACHI.
( a reset to optimal or settings in your bios might help solve your problems)

for any additional answers specs of your pc would be nice. if you have a dell, they also updated some of their bios's and drivers for compatibility

also turn of fast boot while installing if you have it on.

Yeah starting to realise that.

No the update worked. The computer loads, just before it boots up windows it asks if I want to launch in safe mode or normal. If I select normal it just happens again.
