Hey all,

So I got three of the Samsung sm961 256GB M.2 drives today. I thought I would have some fun seeing what numbers I could come up with in single, Dual Raid 0 and Triple Raid 0 configurations. They are all on a PCI-e to M.2 card in a PCI-E lane all running at x4 speed on a Rampage Extreme Edition 10 Motherboard.

Overall in day to day activities, one drive seems to be fine on normal activities. If you are doing lots of reads/writes, photo or video editing/rendering, then two seems to be the sweet spot. Adding a third really does seem to bottleneck and even reduce the speed in some cases.

Here are the results. Single:

Some folks are saying that these numbers are impossible. They are saying that the saturation point is 3.5gbs.
I have a 40 lane CPU and went back to my original setup with two 980s running at x16 each and two 961s in RAID 0 both at x4 each, this used up pretty much all 40 lanes. My numbers indeed did drop to 3.3gb in the Seq reads.

Removing both 980s and using one 1070, thus freeing up 16 lanes, my numbers are back to 6.4GB. So having more lanes available, would that help with the bottleneck?
