I am about to buy a new computer that I would like to build myself.

My computer will be used for programming, data analysis, 3D animation and photo&video editing. I am going to have both a linux and windows operating system. I would appreciate if you could give me feedback on whether my choice of components are well chosen for this kind of work.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake

CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D14

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming G1

Graphics card: ASUS GeForce GTX 970 4GB TURBO (TURBO-GTX970-4G)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 / 2133Mhz / CL13 (CMK32GX4M2A2133C13)

Hard drive: Two "Samsung SSD 850 Evo 250 GB" and one "Seagate Barracuda 3 TB HDD SATA Internal Bare Drive"

Power supply: EVGA PowerSupply (PSU) SuperNOVA P2 850W

Case: Corsair Carbide Clear 600C

Please give your opinions.

Sincerly Simon

1) Go for the X99
2) Don't buy GTX 970. For the price, you can buy GTX 1060 (I recommend this because of CUDA cores) or RX 480.
3) A quad channel kit is better for X99
4) 850W is too much for a build with a GTX 1060 / RX 480. 750W is your sweet spot.
5) This is about personal preference, but you should find another case. My OCD never allows weird things like an inverted motherboard layout.
