Hello,

I just built my first computer and it ran without a hitch. I downloaded Speedfan to check out my temps without the case on (curious since this is all new territory for me). My temps come up fine (around 35°C) for everything but one of my cores. That core seems to always fall between 95°C - 100°C!

This seems grossly incorrect since the system is functioning fabulously without any issues. The only thing that I can think of is that I messed up with placing the CPU heatsink. When I tried placing it, I put it on backwards (my fault for not paying attention to the clips). I had to lift it off the CPU to place it correctly, which I think may have messed up the thermal paste.

Specs:
AMD Phenom II 720
Biostar TA790GX XE (micro-atx)
Silverstone Sugo SG02-F
Corsair CMPSU-400CX 400W
DVD burner
320gb hard-drive
4gb memory
(no graphics card yet, will have Radeon 4770)

Well, if the 95C temp was true, your CPU should've friend by now. Have you tried fixing removing the heatsink, cleaning off the thermal paste, and reapplying the whole she-bang?

Have you tried HWMonitor, AOD, or OCCT? Pretty sure your comp would have shut itself off if it did reach that temperature.
