Looking for a monitor for my 1070

I have been looking at the Acer Predator XB241H but have been reading that the 1070 might be over kill for 1080p 144hz gaming and it also has g sync. Would it be a good idea to go with this or upgrade to a 1440p monitor without g sync or is it necessary for a smooth gaming experience? My budget is $400usd.

I play tons of FPS games but also like single player ones.
I am running a i7 2600k

It really depends a lot on the specific game you're playing. But the GTX 1070 isn't necessarily overkill for 1080p 144Hz, especially if you want to keep everything locked up near the max.
