Is it possible to write a W10 system image to an SD card?

I have a 16GB SD card and I would like to write a system image to it incase something goes wrong with my PC. But when I enter the System Image Backup utility, it tells me that the SD card (NTFS format) is an invalid device and it cannot be used as a system image backup.

Is Windows lying to me? or am I doing something wrong? I could have sworn I have done it this way on previous versions of Windows?

You can certainly store a backup image to an SD card.

The only 2 problems:
1) you will need at least a 64 gb as even 32gb is too small after you have a few programs and files on it
2) SD cards, except a select few, are not that fast so it will take 5-6x the amount of time to write the image and 3-4x the time to read it vs a hard drive.
