So, let me tell you the story in full detail. So I won't miss out on any details.

Today was my niece's birthday so we went eating out to celebrate. So when we did I left my computer on to update to the newest windows update. All looked fine and I left home.

So, a couple hours later I return. I login my computer. 'It is awkwardly slow' I thought to myself. But anyways nothing to worry about.

After I login, I was waiting for everything to load up. But no. My desktop didn't even show. It just shows everything gray. I left it on for a while (~1hr). No change. So after that I restarted to hopefully fix it. But the same happend except now after a while a little darker gray square appears on my screen. I've turned my pc out for ~1hr and turned it back on but no change.

I am really scared my pc got an virus or something and that now I cannot use my computer anymore.
I really hope this is not the case.

I also thought that maybe it was my graphics card that died? But I don't think that makes much sense since I can still move my mouse and see it.

I hope anybody will be able to help me.
I am very sorry for the long post.
I wanted to give every little detail as i am in panic mode atm...

Thanks for any help in advance.

-Ruben Sousa

EDIT: Here are some pictures of how it looks like, for some reason when I put my cursor above the square it shows as 'loading'

Hi,
What is your computer name and model?
Graphics card model?

It sounds very strange.
Can you try this if nothing else works out and remember: your local files will be lost, unless you are able to chose to do a Windows Repair!

Otherwise do a re-install of Windows.

Windows repair will actually do a complete Windows installation, but - it will keep all the already s/w, pictures, games etc. intact.

Afterwords you will ne to do this: Run Windows update, restart > run Windows update again > restart. repeat.

Here is the latest graphics drivers:
Is it AMD graphics: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Is it nVidia graphics: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Is it Intel graphic and all other Intel...

Best regards from Sweden

[Edit] And I almost forgot: press and hold the power on/off button for att least 4 seconds. So that you can try to do a proper restart.

Sorry to update you with such delay.
I've been trying to fix my computer. And I managed to do it.

I've had some trouble trying to fix it since i couldn't access my desktop.

So I managed to get into my desktop thanks to Safe mode.
Through safe mode I managed to backup some files just in case.

After I was done I tried to format my computer. I tried both with saving and not saving my files. They both gave an error.
So how I did it was, when u choose to boot up as safe mode, there was an option to format (in both ways and more) so there u choose to format while saving my files. A d that did the trick :)

Thanks for all the help!
