Hi, I have a gtx 960 2gb from gigabyte installed on my pc right now. My friend offered me a deal on his gtx 960 2gb but I was wondering if I could sli the two. My 960 is a mini itx from gigabyte while his is a 960 from msi or evga i believe. I was just wondering if I could sli the two together even though mines a mini and his is a normal regular card.

Yeah, any 960 should sli fine with any other 960, provided your motherboard supports SLI. If they have different clock speeds (different overclocks), they'll both run at the slower speed.

Yes. As far as I know all of the GTX 960's still use the same architecture.

SLIing any of them together should not be an issue. Make sure your motherboard supports it and you have enough power to use them.

Thanks for the answer, do you think it's worth upgrading? I have to get a new mobo if i want to. Or should I just get a new gfx card in the future.

Is it worth getting the 960? Or do you think I should just get a new graphics card w/ more vram. I still have to get a new mobo if i wanted to sli the 960s so that may be a turn off :/. Thanks for your reply though!

What kind of deal is it on an 960? That price plus motherboard kinda decides whether or not you should do it. As does what your CPU is - if you have a weaker CPU or an old platform, getting a new motherboard just to run a second 960 might not be worthwhile.

In general, one more powerful card is preferred over an SLI setup. SLI scaling is not guaranteed and it makes adequate cooling more difficult. Also, 2gb vram for the a little more performance than a 970 makes very little sense. The low vram will prevent you from properly utilizing that power.
However, if you can get the new mobo and card for under 100USD (half the price of a new 960) and your cpu is 4th gen i5 or higher, it might make sense.

Hmm, I'd have to get a new motherboard and possibly a new case to fit everything. Currently have an i5-4590.

Ahh thanks for your help. Will probably be getting a better card in the future then. I'd have to get a new mobo, and possibly case so I don't think it'll be worth.

New motherboard *and* case just to add a second 2 GB 960? I'm thinking getting a new GPU and selling your old 960 is the better option.

Yep, planning on getting one with more vram. Mind giving me some recommendations for a card?

The 1060 is a decent upgrade over the 960, and it's around $280 for the Gigabyte G1 model. But I'd wait a month or two for the GPU market to settle down on prices if you're not in a rush.

Not worth it. Supposing you pick up the 960 for $100 and get a good SLI mobo for $70... that's $170 just to accommodate an old relatively weak gpu. Not to mention should you upgrade cpus in the future, you might have an outdated socket.

If < $200 is your absolute budget, just get a 970. A 970 is still good for another 2-3 years.

Or, save the money and get yourself a 1060 for about $50 more.

In that case, it's not worth it. You would be better off selling your 960 and upgrading to a GTX-1060, RX-480 or even GTX-1070. You would end up much faster than 960 SLI.
