I am currently i the process of deciding components for my first build, it is most definitely a budget build. However i already have several components from the PC i currently have, however i got this one for free so i am looking to customize and improve upon this PC and get into building PCs.
i already have an i7-4770@3.4 ghz, 24 gb of ram (4 6gb stick ddr3) @ 1600hz, a 2 tb 7200 hard drive, and a 256gb 830 samsung ssd. I intend on using these components in the build as they are more than capable of a decent gaming computer; simply looking for a modest $300-500 addition to this in order to play basic games such as overwatch, and youtube/twitch. Criticism/advice and suggestions greatly appreciated. As i am very budgeted I plan to simply use a windows 10 home version non-activated until i can buy via flash drive.

Here is my build as follows: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/XQJW4C

keep in mind i could not find my specific ram on pcpartpicker so i simply chose 24gb @ 1600hz

cpu: Intel Core i7-4770 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
thermal paste: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste
motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H-A Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
ram: 4 6gb sticks @ 1600hz
ssd: Samsung 830 Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
hard drive: Dell 7200 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive - 2 TB
video card: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB FTW ACX 2.0+ Video Card
case: Deepcool DUKASE V2 ATX Mid Tower Case
psu: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
wireless network adapter: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I REV 4.2 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter
anti static wrist strap: Kingwin Anti-Static Wrist Strap with Grounding Wire (Blue)

Keep in mind that these are the best prices as of making this post however i am always open to switching if a more cost effective solution for similar performance is available.

i did not intend on buying an optical drive as i do not use cds or dvds while gaming and have no reason to, is there a reason i am missing? besides installing windows which i can do via flash drive

The PSU is low quality, you'll want to upgrade that before doing any component upgrades imo.
Get a 1070, it will max stuff out at 60fps 1080p just fine.
Get this.

Uh, 6GB sticks of RAM lol.

Anyways while you get your RAM specs corrected, guessing 3 8GB sticks,
My thoughts, why the cooler? I am guessing you dont have one if so makes sense and I cant argue with the choice. It is probably number one pick for budget coolers. However you could probably save some money and get the lower price Hyper T2 and these things dont require applying thermal paste they have a compound already on them so you could just save the $6 aswell as knock $20 off (rebates are stupid you would not see that $10 savings for a while).

Also maybe get a higher watt PSU as mentioned to be on the safe side. Maybe this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0722TG5597&cm_re=modular_600w-_-17-182-331-_-Product

I am kind of confused on your price range, with only the mobo, evo 212, case, psu, nic (with all you picked), the price is roughly $200 so why a $190 GPU, when you could get a GTX 1060 6GB for ~$280 and still be at $500.

lawson, PLEASE read the thread.
This is stuff he already owns, and he is looking for an upgrade.
The 212 Evo isn't actually great value nowadays, there are options like the Gammax 400 or the Be Quiet! Pure Rock which outperform it for the same or less.

@lawson72 - I agree with every you've said apart from the cooler because the t2 is utter rubbish , nowhere near good enough for an i7

The deepcool gammaxx 300 & 400 are where the smart purchases are at, very quick to fit , Pre applied paste , perform the same as the 212 if not slightly better.

I must have bad reading skills because I was under the impression he was buying all these parts besides the CPU, RAM, storage, and was trying to spend under $500 on the rest.

I worded my post poorly too, meant addition. ;)
Hence why I have put a cooler, PSU and graphics card in my build.

So i updated the psu to the 650 archetype, I assume this will be enough for my needs but correct me if I'm wrong, and after researching it seems as though the hyper 12 evo comes with thermal paste, the reason I am getting a new cpu cooler is because the current one is rather old and has default thermal paste, would I be better off getting a new cpu cooler or just reapplying thermal paste to the current cooler and cleaning it out? And I have 24 gb of ram, all same brand and product, so that would lead me to believe there are 4 6 sticks, although I am not 100% why. I received this pc free and am not aware of all purchases for this pc

He is not overclocking so I was thinking of a cheaper solution and the hyper t2 came to mind (clearly however I am not up to date on cheap cpu cooler lol). If he has a stock cooler from this other PC I would just use that, maybe I am crazy lol it just seems unnecessary...
That gammaxx 300 looks like a damn good buy at $20 on amazon

What are you using now and what exactly is this free PC? A Dell that had a i7 4770, ram, and storage?

If so and it is fully functional, keep MOBO if it has pcie x16 slot. I seriously doubt some b85 board at $50 is going to be impressive in comparison.

Personally I would keep your current cooler, clean it and apply some new thermal paste. You are not overclocking so I doubt temps are going to be a problem.

I should have probably been more specific with price ranges, I am looking for pretty much the cheapest possible for 300-400 primarily, this seems to fit the price range of the 960 perfectly as I can't quite afford the Gtx 1060. So to clear up, the stock cooler for the i7 4770 will do fine and I should just re-maintenance it, a 600 instead of 500 psu, and if I am to buy a cooler, A maxxass 300 or 400 will do fine?

I am currently using a dell xps 8700 with the i7 4770, stock cooler, Gtx 650 (straight from nvidia), the typical dell xps 8700 mobo (0kwtv8), 24gb ram @1600, not entirely sure what pcu? And the 256 gab ssd and 2 tb hdd

A family member had died and I received this pic from him

Is there a reason you dont want to use your current motherboard? As I said a $50 mobo is not going to be any better, if anything worse.

As it looks:
CPU Free
Cooler Free + $6 themal paste
MOBO Free
RAM Free
Case: $50 (you can probably use what you got if GPU will fit, sounds likely)
PSU~$60
NIC ??? Free use what you are using right now
GPU:GTX 1060 6GB ~$250

Not particularly, only for pricing reasons, I could sell the cell mobo for significantly for than the other mobo is worth but I'll see

Nonesense, you can fit in a 1060! ;)
A cooler on an i7 will be a great improvement, as it will get toasty over time.

One last question, would it be smarter to go with the ftw evga 1060 or the gigabyte oc 1060? Seems like the ftw has .03 better clocking?
