Hi there

I recently purchased a Eaton 5E 850i UPS

I have noticed that with nothing plugged into the UPS other than the USB cable to run the monitoring software that the UPS is apparently under 95-100w of load

I would have thought that given nothing was plugged into the unit and that the battery is @ 100% there should be no load or very little load if anything at all.

I have been playing ping pong email with Eaton and was just wondering if anyone else runs a UPS and has noticed that their UPS is also under load when nothing is plugged into it ?

Cheers

I'm running 240v as well.

Kind of frustrating that a bit over 10% of the UPS output is being used with nothing actually drawing power from it. Also makes me wonder if it's burning 100w constantly doing nothing which is going to add up on my power bill.

Yep in Australia,

If it was only 50w I would not care so much but unfortunately my machine causes it to overload when gaming. And it's only just hitting the overload threshold. So if this phantom 100w was not there I would not be having overloaded issues.
