Dual display error

Hi guys got a annoying error i need help with, I have an r9 290 & two displays one 144hz and one old 60 hz. When trying to use dual screen it will only detect the 60hz and not the 144hz. It will however detect the second screen if using a HDMI cable and not a dvi-d ? Any ideas on what i can do i've reinstalled drivers countless times and even used DDU and the error still remains

Connect 144hz monitor with dual link DVI cable or DisplayPort cable, connect 60hz monitor any other way.
If you use clone mode for display configuration, they both will operate in 60Hz.
