HDMI to PC: Check Signal Cable

I wanted to use an alternative to my VGA cable so I could use my built in speakers as I have a very small desk. However when I took my VGA out and connected the PC to my monitor with my HDMI it just says Check Signal Cable. I have tried different channels, and whenever I plug the VGA back it it works fine! I have integrated graphics as well.

use the monitors menu/buttons to tell it to switch the input to the hdmi. Not all monitors do this automatically.
