New monitor looks washed out in games

I just got a new BenQ GL2250HM monitor and I'm having some issues with the contrast. Initially it looked washed in the desktop view, however I fixed this by setting a refresh rate of 59.999 Hz, however the colour is still washed out when I run games, anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Try using the gamer preset, in my experience it looks the sharpest.

Ensure you are outputting the full dynamic range. On nVidia it is under "Change Resolution" in the nVidia control panel, scroll to the bottom.

You should be using a digital input, namely dvi or hdmi, not vga.

If your graphics card is nvidia, go to the nvidia control panel and you can set display settings for more appropriate to games in general, or to the particular problem game.
