Dual monitors, RX480 - how best to hookup?

So I have a new build, with two monitors.

One is a fairly new and large BenQ with HDMI, VGA and DVI - main gaming screen.
The other is an old Dell 17" with just DVI and VGA - secondary screen,

My build has an RX480 which has
1 x DVI
2 x HDMI
2 x DisplayPort 1.4
No VGA :-( (Mobo has VGA obvs)

I have read that trying to connect one monitor to mobo VGA and the other to the RX480 is not a great idea, and that I should ideally connect both to the RX480.

I have also read that DVI is better than HDMI for gaming?

That being so, should I:-
a) connect the secondary monitor using DVI and the primary gaming monitor using HDMI?
b) or connect pair of them to the single DVI port with a splitter?

Basically, how much better is DVI than HDMI for gaming, and does splitting the DVI signal degrade it at all?

And what the heck is displayport 1.4... and where does that fit into the scheme of things?
Is DP to HDMI cabling better than HDMI to HDMI? (BenQ has no DP connection).

TOO MANY OPTIONS!

If any of your monitors supported it, they...

Even though the primary is to be used for gaming - go for HDMI over DVI?
I thought DVI gave full RGB range (v HDMI) and better blacks?

And DP?

You thought wrong. They transmit the same digital sygnal. you can actually cable between them. And it doesn't matter which is which.
DP is a newer, more capable connector. It can do 4k(which DVI can't) adn other stuff like G-Sync and FreeSync.
For your needs, it is completly irrelevant.

Why is Freesync irrelevant?

If any of your monitors supported it, they would have a DP port, seeing as it only works through DP, like i said above, no? :)
